Fine merino
- What it gives you
- Softest wool on the site
- What it costs you
- Thin, and the first to wear at the elbows
One micron finer than the standard merino sounds like nothing. On the neck it is the difference between noticing a sweater and forgetting it.
You pay for that twice: it is thinner, so it is less warm, and the finer fibre abrades sooner at the elbow. We would rather you knew that before you ordered.
Four rows, on every wool piece we sell
What this yarn will do that you did not ask for.
A piece with any of these four rows missing cannot be listed. That rule is enforced in the build, not left to whoever writes the copy.
- Will it pill?Pilling
- It will pill. The underarm, the side seam and wherever a bag strap rides go first. We grade this yarn 3 after 2,000 rubs (Martindale, ISO 12945-2). A pill comb removes them and the fabric underneath is unchanged.
- Will it itch?Itch
- Mean fibre diameter 17.5 μm. Below roughly 19.5 μm most people feel nothing; above roughly 23 μm most people do. That is a measurement, not a promise about your neck.
- What if I wash it wrong?Felting
- Heat and agitation felt wool, and felting cannot be undone. Wool cycle, 30 °C maximum, dried flat. A 60 °C machine wash will shrink this permanently, and that is wear caused by washing, not a defect in the garment.
- Will moths eat it?Moths
- Wool is a protein fibre and clothes moths eat it. Store it clean — moths are drawn to skin oils and food traces, not to wool itself — sealed in a bag or box, off the floor, and never pressed flat under weight for a whole season.

Care
The conditions, not the icons.
Wool cycle, 30 °C, dry flat. Do not tumble dry.
washing it hotter than this is not covered — and here is exactly why
Who pays when a sweater is felted- Maximum wash temperature
- 30 °CAbove this the fibre felts, and felting is permanent.
- Machine wool cycle
- AllowedA true wool programme: low agitation, slow spin.
- Drying
- Dry flatHanging a wet shaped knit stretches the body and the shoulders.
- Tumble dryer
- NeverHeat plus tumbling is the fastest way to felt a wool garment.
- Iron
- 110 °C maximumPress and lift. Sliding an iron across knitting flattens the stitch.
