Buys sheen and drape, sells snag resistance
Wool-silk
- What it gives you
- The only shine in the range
- What it costs you
- Snags on watches, rings, zips
Silk is a filament, so it reflects light along its length and gives the fabric a quiet sheen no wool can. The same filament is what a watch clasp pulls out into a loop.
If you wear rings or a metal bracelet daily, buy the wool-nylon instead. We would rather say that than take the order.
Four rows, on every wool piece we sell
What this yarn will do that you did not ask for.
A piece with any of these four rows missing cannot be listed. That rule is enforced in the build, not left to whoever writes the copy.
- Will it pill?Pilling
- It pills less than pure wool but snags more. Silk filaments pull into loops rather than tangling into balls. We grade this yarn 3 after 2,000 rubs (Martindale, ISO 12945-2). A pulled loop should be eased back with a needle, never cut.
- Will it itch?Itch
- Mean fibre diameter 19.5 μm. Below roughly 19.5 μm most people feel nothing; above roughly 23 μm most people do. That is a measurement, not a promise about your neck.
- What if I wash it wrong?Felting
- Heat and agitation felt wool, and felting cannot be undone. Wool cycle, 30 °C maximum, dried flat. A 60 °C machine wash will shrink this permanently, and that is wear caused by washing, not a defect in the garment.
- Will moths eat it?Moths
- Wool is a protein fibre and clothes moths eat it. Store it clean — moths are drawn to skin oils and food traces, not to wool itself — sealed in a bag or box, off the floor, and never pressed flat under weight for a whole season.

5 is unchanged, 1 is heavily pilled.
Test method
Martindale abrasion, 2,000 rubs, assessed to ISO 12945-2
Mean fibre diameter 19.5 μm. Where that sits against every other yarn.
Care
The conditions, not the icons.
Hand wash, 30 °C, dry flat. Keep it away from friction while wet.
washing it hotter than this is not covered — and here is exactly why
Who pays when a sweater is felted- Maximum wash temperature
- 30 °CHand wash only. A machine will agitate this into felt.
- Machine wool cycle
- Not allowedWash it by hand in still water instead.
- Drying
- Dry flatHanging a wet shaped knit stretches the body and the shoulders.
- Tumble dryer
- NeverHeat plus tumbling is the fastest way to felt a wool garment.
- Iron
- 110 °C maximumPress and lift. Sliding an iron across knitting flattens the stitch.

These are garment measurements, not body measurements. Lay a piece you already like on a table, measure it the same way, and compare. There is no one-size option on this site.
